Spa Saturdays- 03 Coconut Oil (Benefits)

Hey guys ! So, we are back with another post of Spa Saturdays. This week we are going to be discussing Coconut Oil and it's benefits of skin, health, hair etc etc.

Coconut oil is often described as the “healthiest oil on earth.”
This wasn’t always so. For years it had a reputation of being unhealthy because of its high saturated fat content. We now know coconut oil is different from most fats and is actually good for us.

Dr. Mary Enig: “The research over four decades concerning coconut oil in diet and heart disease is quite clear: coconut oil has been shown to be beneficial."

Coconut Oil- for skin :-

  • Moisturize Skin :- Coconut oil is a major ingredient in many natural skin moisturizers due to its oils and high fat content. The oil is made up of about 90 percent saturated fats with traces of skin-strengthening vitamin E as well.
  • Massage:- Many massage oils use coconut oil, both for its skin-benefiting properties and for its pleasant aroma. Unlike some oils used for massage, coconut oil has no toxic effects on the body, allowing for regular safe massages.
  • Soothing Skin :- Coconut oil also has special soothing properties as well, making it the perfect choice for relaxing massage.
  • Skin Relief:- The familiar smell of coconut in suntan lotion comes from the oil’s regular use as skin relief creams. Coconut oil is very useful for the treatment of minor burns, like sunburn, as its small molecular structure allows for easy absorption into the skin. The addition of oil to damaged skin cells allows them to increase the flexibility and internal moisturizing necessary for healthy skin. Coconut oil also contains antioxidants that promote healthy cell regeneration over time.

Coconut Oil- for Hair :-

  • Shields hair protein :- Lauric acid, a major component of coconut oil gives the oil its protective properties. Lauric acid is a fatty acid that easily binds hair proteins thus helping in protecting roots of hair strands and preventing hair breakage.
  • Seals in hair moisture :- Regular application of coconut oil can help you keep your hair strong and moisturized. Coconut oil possesses the ability of penetrating the hair shaft and thus conditions your hair from within. The oil supplies enough moisture to protect your hair follicles from environmental impurities and heat.
  • Contains antibacterial and anti-fungal properties :- Coconut oil’s antibacterial and anti-fungal properties give the oil the ability of protecting your scalp against dandruff and lice, both of which can hinder hair growth.
  • Contains nutrients :- Coconut oil is a rich source of nutrients like vitamin E, vitamin K and iron. These nutrients are essential for maintaining your hair’s shine and softness. Vitamin E is particularly effective in eradicating dandruff, which is a major cause of hair fall and hindered hair growth.
  • Improves blood circulation :- Massage your scalp with coconut oil to stimulate blood circulation. Improved blood circulation to your scalp will ensure that your hair follicles receive the required amount of essential nutrients and oxygen. This will make your hair follicles healthy and promote hair growth.

Coconut Oil- for Health :-

  •  Thyroid-stimulating :- Coconut oil contains a medium-chain fatty acids accelerate that stimulates metabolism, gives you more energy.
  • Get candida in check :- Coconut oil has a good quantity of caprylic acid in it which is well known to kill off excess candida by targeting harmful bacteria.
  • Lowers cholesterol :- It is rich in lauric acid which protects your heart by reducing total cholesterol and increasing good cholesterol.
  • Helps keep diabetes in check :- It helps control blood sugar by improving the secretion of insulin. Note: This is not a free pass to eat a lot of sugar and other dumb carbs.
  • Reduces heart disease :- Studies on people in the Pacific Islands found that their total caloric intake included thirty to sixty percent from fully saturated coconut oil. These Pacific Islanders have nearly non-existent rates of cardiovascular disease.
  •  Gastrointestinal mal-absorption diseases :- Combining Vitamin E supplements with coconut oil through the skin proved to be a good alternative for those with gastrointestinal malabsorption diseases.
  • Supports the immune system :- It is rich in lauric acid, a nutrient that supports the body’s immune system.
  • Healing Bruises and infected parts :- When applied externally it forms a protective antibacterial layer protecting the infected body part.  Also, coconut oil speeds up the healing process of bruises by helping to repair damaged tissue.
  • Nourishing for the brain :- It improves cognitive function, and stalls, or even reverses, neuro degenerative diseases in their early stages.
  • Speeds Recovery :- People in Panama drink a glass of coconut oil to protect themselves from illness as it is also believed to speed recovery from sickness.

Coconut Oil-for Weight Loss :-

  • Coconut oil primarily consists of medium-chain fatty acids. These triglycerides can speed up the metabolism because they are so easily digested and converted into energy. Long-chain fatty acids, like those in polyunsaturated oils, are more difficult for the body to break down and use for energy. Instead, long-chain fatty acids are usually stored as fat in the body.Several scientific studies have exhibited these principles.
